Calzaghe To Hit Back at Warren for $4 million
Give Joe Calzaghe a smack and chances are you'll get two back. After news came that his former
promoter Frank Warren was suing the Welsh light-heavyweight for ?1 million, the boxer has revealed
he's countering suing - for $4 million.
In what is another great scoop for Calzaghe's local paper, the South Wales Argus, Joe spoke out on the legal
action, which has very quickly turned acrimonious.
"As I said in the press recently I am now a free agent with no contractual obligations with Sports Network or
Frank Warren.
"Frank has sued me in order to try and hold onto me for my upcoming fight with Roy Jones Jr.
"This claim is without merit and I will fight it vigorously."
He continued: "But that is only half the story."
Calzaghe then accused Sports Network of withholding $4 million dollars from his fight with Bernard Hopkins.
"I am counter-suing for this and am confident of success."
Warren initiated legal proceedings against Ricky Hatton when the Manchester boxer left him although they appear
to have fizzled out - at least, there has been no mention of developments recently. And, just as Hatton and his
family took Warren's action very personally, it appears that Calzaghe is doing the same.
"I am saddened and disgusted by what Frank Warren and his company have done," Calzaghe said.
"I have shown great loyalty to Frank Warren for many years and it seems he had a problem knowing when to let
go."
